Public-Private Dialogue on Climate Resilience in Dodoma
Tanzania Renewable Energy Association (TAREA) with support of the European Union Delegation conducted the Public-Private Stakeholders’ Conference and Workshop “Climate Resilience: Mitigation and Adaptation through Renewable Energy” in Dodoma on 13.12.2021. The conference provided a platform of Public-Private Dialogue in which parties discussed issues with transparency.
The conference was officiated by the Deputy Minister for Energy Hon. Adv. Stephen Lujwahuka Byabato (MP). The conference was honoured by the Head of European Delegation to Tanzania His Excellency Manfredo Fanti.
The main topics of the conference were:
- Private Sector Roles on Off-grid Electrification: Policies, Regulations, Opportunities, Challenges and Proposed Solutions.
- Productive Use of Energy in the Rural Settings, Agriculture, Business and Small Industries, possible strategies to increase productive use of electricity.
- Clean Cooking: How can Tanzania Halve Usage of Unsustainable Biomass for Cooking by 2030.
- Large Scale Grid-Connected Renewable Energy Producers: Challenges and Opportunities.

European Union announced two renewable energy finance schemes. The first scheme is the Cook Fund that aims at supporting the private sector to increase the market share of clean cooking technologies. The fund will be managed by United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNDF). The second scheme is financing solar water pumping for smallholder agriculture. The fund will be managed by Simusolar Tanzania Limited.
During the conference, United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) presented its ongoing ethanol cooking project. The project aims at disseminating 500,000 stoves in Dar es Salaam. After the pilot phase in Dar es Salaam, UNIDO will scale the project to other regions.
The conference attracted more than 130 participants who attended physically and virtually. The participants consisted of individuals, NGOs, Development Partners, Media and Officials of the Government of Tanzania.
Underneath were the outcomes of the conference.
- Government of Tanzania revisiting the agenda of the renewable energy mini-grids electricity tariffs
- Government of Tanzania increasing opportunities of Public-Private Dialogues. The private sector was requested to be transparent.
- To increase public-private partnership in enabling productive use of energy.
- Government of Tanzania to increase involvement in clean cooking technologies. It is preparing a cooking energy action plan.
- Government of Tanzania to increase the renewable energy share in the energy mix.
The Chairperson of TAREA closed the conference inviting Tanzanians and non-Tanzanians to the National Renewable Energy Day 2022 to be held June/July 2022 that will also attract foreign renewable energy and energy, efficiency actors.
