Emmaberg Girls High School Independence from the National Grid
Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania-South Diocese (ELCT-SD) in cooperation with Schule Partnerschaft e.V (SchuPa) of Bayern, Germany, and Tanzania Renewable Energy Association (TAREA) of Tanzania, on the 5th of April 2025, commissioned a 13.2 kWp solar photovoltaic system with storage of Lithium-Iron-Phosphate 76.8 kWh and hybrid inverters 2*8kW.
The installed solar photovoltaic system supplies electricity to the science laboratories, computer laboratories and classrooms, making these units 100% free from TANESCO, a national utility of Tanzania.
To ensure proper use of the system, end users were trained on the best practices of using the solar photovoltaic system. The team of students' service team was recruited and trained. The team was provided with the Personal Protective Equipment.
This project was developed after success of replacing national grid with solar photovoltaics for water pumping and dormitories lighting, and installing solar water heaters to replace the use of firewood.
