Dialogue with Government of Tanzania on Biomass Cooking Technologies

On 14 July 2020 TAREA with support of ENDEV III Program through SNV conducted a workshop that attracted biomass actors from the private and public sectors. Government authorities present were Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, Centre for Agricultural Mechanization and Rural Technologies, Tanzania Forest Service Agency, Rural Energy Agency, Commission for Science and Technology, University of Dar es Salaam and Vice President Office.

The parties met to discuss the open question of which government authority is the lead of the biomass cooking technologies.

Parties noted that currently there is no local data about the impacts of using biomass energy cooking on the human health.

TAREA continues to coordinate the dialogue to get the two above issues answered.


Preiswerk Girls Get Solar Light

Preiswerk Girls Secondary School, owned by Moravian Church in Tanzania Eastern Province, located in Ifakara, offering education to the disadvantaged girls, early April 2020 received 1.28kWp solar photovoltaic system from URBIS Foundation of Bayern in Germany through Tanzania Renewable Energy Association (TAREA). The availability of electricity will improve quality of living and learning environment of the girls.



14th National Renewable Energy Day

Tanzania Renewable Energy Association with financial contribution of: the Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands; Electricity and Water Utility Regulary Agency (EWURA); Brac &Solar Sisters; Chloride Solar; and Energy Plus Ltd, conducted the event of 14th National Renewable Energy Day at Mnazi Mmoja Grounds, Dar es Salaam from 29th to 30th November, 2019.

The event consisted of workshop and technology exhibitions.

The event was opened by the Hon. George Simbachawene (MP), Minister in the Vice President Office Responsible for Environment and Union Affairs with the presence of Honorable Ambassador for the Kingdom of the Netherlands His Excellency Jeroen Verheul.

The event was closed by Hon. Innocent Lugha Bashungwa (MP), Minister for Industry and Trade in the presence of Representative of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Rogier Verstraeten and TAREA Founder Prof. Cuthbert Kimambo.

Ministers were much impressed by the manufacturers of the cooking solutions that presented stoves and briquettes.

Ministers urged on local manufacturing of renewable energy products. Hon. Bashungwa directed public and private sectors under lead of Rural Energy Agency (REA) to propose a strategy of scaling up the uptake of sustainable cooking solutions.
